6/24 - 7/20 Freewill Shakespeare Festival 630 CHED is proud to present the 20th Anniversary Season of the Freewill Shakespeare Festival at Hawrelak Park Heritage Amphitheatre starting June 23rd thru to July 20th! Come explore the works of William Shakespeare in an outdoor setting as interpreted by an ensemble of Canadian actors, directors and designers.

The Freewill Shakespeare Festival is all about celebrating why the Bard’s works are still relevant today. Whether you’re a Shakespeare nut or a Shakespeare newbie, when you come to the Festival, take a quick glance at the brief synopses provided and you’ll be set to enjoy an amazing performance. General seating is available under the canopy but you can also bring a blanket and watch performances from the grass. Hint: it’s a really romantic date night.

This season’s performances are:

As You Like It – One afternoon, four weddings, family drama that doesn’t involve you, and no need to bring a gift: As You Like It is the perfect antidote to your summer wedding fatigue.

Richard III – Freewill Shakespeare festival’s Richard III is a fantastically complicated journey between complicity and loathing for a character that compels you to see the sense of his action.

7/4 - 7/13 2008 International Street Performers Festival 630 CHED is proud to present the 2008 International Street Performers Festival at Sir Winston Churchill Square July 4th to the 13th! Every year performers from around the world unite at Sir Winston Churchill Square to perform there greatest works of art. This festival welcomes everyone in Edmonton to join in the daily free performances in the square. Outdoor shows happen daily from 11:30am to 11pm and KIDS WORLD is open 11:30am to 6pm.

7/11 - 7/11 7th Annual MADD Golf Tournament 630 CHED is proud to support the 7th Annual MADD Golf Tournament at Broadmoor Public Golf Course on July 11th.

This golf tournament offers businesses and individuals the unique opportunity to help educate the public about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving. The MADD Edmonton & Area Chapter has a proven track record for saving lives and keeping our roadways safer. Every contribution, and every golf ball putted, will help raise much needed funds used to heighten awareness of MADD Edmonton & Area’s vital programs and services.

All funds raised during this tournament will be used by the Edmonton & Area Chapter. The Chapter will use these funds towards Public Education and Victim Services programs.

7/12 - 7/12 World Championship of Performing Arts Team Alberta Fundraiser 630 CHED is proud to support Team Alberta’s efforts at the annual World Championship of Performing Arts that will be taking place in Hollywood, California on July 19th to July 27th 2008. .

Team Alberta is part of a group of 50 multi-talented singers, actors, dancers, models and instrumentalists have been selected from all over Canada to compete at this prestigious event. .

The World Championship receives representation from 52 other countries around the world. .

With medals to be won along with scholarships to attend the New York School for Film and Television contestants will perform for some of the main agents, managers and producers in the industry. .

After intensive training during the last 4 months, the team is finally prepared to show off their amazing skills. .

There are 34 Team Alberata members who age from 8 to 50 years old. These talented Canadian entertainers will showcase their talent and skills at a fundraiser being held on July 12 at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Calgary from 3 pm to 8 pm. .

Along with a performance from all artists, there will be a silent auction, prizes and refreshments. .

James Taylor will embark on a North American tour accompanied by his full big band. The “James Taylor And His Band Of Legends” tour will feature a rousing evening of music from the new album, a collection of cover songs inspired by such notable recording artists as Chuck Berry, Big Mama Thornton, Junior Walker, among others, along with performances of Taylor’s greatest hits.

Widely regarded as a preeminent musician and storyteller, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee continues the world tour of his acclaimed CD/DVD release “One Man Band” in Europe in April 2008. The tour will include appearances at the Olympia Theatre in Paris as well as performances in Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Lucerne and Rome. “One Man Band” is an intimate retrospective of 40-years worth of songs interspersed with Taylor’s insightful and humorous anecdotes about the people, places and events that inspired them. Recorded at the Colonial Theatre in the heart of the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts, the show, written by Taylor, features performances of such classic hits as “Carolina In My Mind,” “You’ve Got A Friend,” “Shower the People,” and “Fire and Rain” and will make its broadcast debut next month on PBS’s “Great Performances.”

7/24 - 7/26 PBR - Professional Bull Riders Edmonton Invitational
630 CHED is proud to sponsor The Professional Bull Riders at Rexall Place July 24th – 26th.

On July 24 – 26th the world’s preeminent bull riding organization, the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR), will buck into Edmonton, Alberta Canada’s Rexall Place for the Edmonton Invitational, a part of the elite Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler. For three nights, Thursday through Saturday, the toughest men on dirt will battle the fiercest bovine athletes in the world in a bull riding competition unlike any the Canadian fans have ever seen.

For as little as $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for children, fans will see two and a half hours of full-throttle action - PBR style - with the world’s top 45 bull riding athletes each riding one bull each night. On Saturday fans will be treated to a bonus round when the top 15 scoring athletes will return in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round to determine the event champion. The man with the highest total score on 4 bulls will be the winner.

8/3 Edmonton Police Service vs Edmonton Fire Department Football Game The Edmonton Fire Department is taking on The Edmonton Police Service in a football game in support of the Stollery Children's Hospital. On Sunday, August 3rd come down to Foote Field (11601 - 68 Ave) at 2:00pm to check out the action!

Tickets are $10 each or $20 for a family of 3 or more. All of the proceeds go to benefit the Stollery Children's Hospital. They will be on-site accepting donations as well!

8/23 Row For Kids On Saturday, August 23, 2008, The Stollery Childrens Hospital, PCL and the Edmonton Rowing Club invite families to come out and enjoy the Row for Kids Festival at Telford Lake, Leduc. Teams of eight have been training tirelessly since June to compete in this family-oriented event.

The festival offers a number of activities, including: face painting, balloon artists, and a barbeque lunch.
